Communities across Southwest Virginia depend on United Way of Southwest Virginia to quickly mobilize to meet immediate needs and assist in long-term recovery after disaster strikes.  United Way of Southwest Virginia has the capacity, experience, and working relationships to provide resources needed for relief and recovery.

Overnight flooding on the night of July 12 and early morning of July 13, 2022 in the Dismal River, Hale Creek, Jewell Valley, Patterson, Pilgrim's Knob, and Whitewood areas of Buchanan County forced residents from their homes and left thousands without power.

United Way of Southwest Virginia has activated a Buchanan County 2022 Relief Fund to assist those impacted by the flooding. This fund is separate from the Hurley Long-Term Relief Fund which was established in 2021 to assist flood victims in another area of Buchanan County.

All donations to the Buchanan County 2022 Flood Relief Fund will go directly to support those impacted by the Buchanan County 2022 disaster.

United Way of Southwest Virginia works with authorities and partners in Buchanan County to distribute funds.
